OUR PURPOSE
Mentoring Families and Kids, Inc, (MFK) is a 501 c3 organization that was founded in 2005. The organization focuses on educational support for under-served students from K-12 by emphasizing parent involvement and increasing exposure to S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math). Furthermore, we have a passion to help parents meet the needs of children in the educational progression process. We believe that a community/village concept can make a difference in the lives of parents and kids in our community.
OUR MISSION
MFK’s mission is to provide encouragement and educational support programs that engage students and parents in meeting the urgent needs as it pertains to educational advancement and service in the community. In turn, this furthers job growth, which enhances our community and quality of life.

A Message From The Founder
NSBE, Jr.
In 2005 MFK chartered a city-wide NSBE, Jr. in Jacksonville, FL, currently the only NSBE, Jr. Chapter in the metropolitan area. The National Society of Black Engineers (commonly known as NSBE), founded in 1975, is one of the largest student-run organizations in the US, centered on improving the recruitment and retention of African-American engineering students. NSBE has grown to over 26,000 members worldwide in over 30 countries. NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”
NSBE Pre-Collegiate Initiatives include:
- Helping pre-college students develop a positive attitude towards academic excellence
- Encouraging and supporting parental commitment to their children’s education
- Stimulating enthusiasm about engineering and science among pre-college students
- Providing support to students throughout the college application process Increase the number of African-American engineers
- Preparing pre-college students to be positive, contributing future NSBE members

A Message From The Founder
The vision of this organization has always been this: To become a premier service organization in the Jacksonville community that meets the needs of under-served African-American families. To date, we have done this by mentoring pre-collegiate students as well as providing rehabilitation services to those adults who are determined to make positive changes in their lives.
In the future I envision us expanding our initiatives to serve even more families. I envision us having alumni members returning to sow seeds that are the fruit of what was sown in them. I envision an organization that, at the heart of all of the programming, lies a spirit of excellence.
As the organization grows, as strategic objectives change, and even as the needs of the people we serve change, it is my prayer that this vision remain forever clear and at the forefront of what we do. Service is essential because we ourselves are blessed. More importantly, service that has impact originates with pure intentions and desire to truly make a positive change.
From the onset, our goal has always been to improve the quality of life for young people and their families. And when the torch is passed to the next generation of leaders, I want to pass on that passion–a passion for making a difference. I believe that if we continue to make sure our team and our partners have this passion, we will always be able to do the good work that we are already known for.
